Veteran’s Coalition Dinner – The Troop has been asked to once again assist with this annual event. We will be asking those who are not attending summer camp to volunteer for this event since those who are going to camp will be leaving at approx. 3-4am! If you are going to summer camp and still want to volunteer for the dinner……..you can! I know some of you look forward to this fabulous steak dinner each year! Scouts will need to be in Field Uniform at the Eagles Hall on Hwy. 16 just west of town at 5:30pm

Summer Camp – Gear must be packed in a duffle bag – NO BACKPACKS! Put your name on everything! Nothing can be attached to the outside of the bag!!! All gear will need to be marked with some type of red marking with CCV written on it. This could be ribbon, tape or luggage tag. Scouts should plan on bringing a “daypack” such as a school backpack to haul their swim gear, merit badge books, pen/pencils, sunscreen, chapstick and water bottle around the camp during the day. Full field uniform (class A) is needed for camp – Scout Shirt, Scout Pants, Scout Shorts, Scout Belt, Scout Socks, Troop Neckerchief, Troop Hat, and Troop Activity Shirt. Rank Advancement – Are you are track? Do you feel like things aren’t moving as quickly as you would like? All Scouts should bring their handbooks to each and every Troop meeting! The Leaders are looking to assist Scouts with rank advancement, but we can’t do it without your handbooks! Our next Court of Honor is scheduled for Tuesday, August 25th. We will be holding Boards of Review August 4th and August 11th. Please do not wait until the last minute to get your Scoutmaster’s conference and/or to look at your requirements for the next rank!

First Aid Merit Badge – If you do not turn in your completed worksheet by next week then it will be your responsibility to get the form to Dr. Bernard on your own! We will be setting a date after summer camp for the CPR day.

Stebbins Cold Canyon Hike – We had 12 Scouts and 4 Adults attend the June outing. It was a great day. Scouts starting working with map and compass, identified poisonous plants and had lunch on the peak of the mountaintop with an incredible view of Lake Berryessa and the Sacramento Valley.

June Troop Outing – Day hike at Stebben’s Cold Canyon. We will meet at the Boy Scout Cabin at 7:30am on Saturday, June 27th. Scouts are to wear their Troop activity shirt, bring a lunch, snacks and plenty of water and a compass. You may wish to bring a camera as the views are spectacular! This hike will take care of many advancement requirements: 5 miles with map and compass, plant and animal identification. Don’t forget to print off a permission slip from the Troop webpage!

Court of Honor – DATE CHANGED!!! In order to allow Scouts more time to complete Boards of Review and to get thru finals at school, the Court of Honor has been postponed until June 9th! The will be a dessert potluck. Please bring a dessert to share!

Scout Day at the A’s - We have an opportunity to attend an Oakland A’s game on Scout Day, June 7th. Tickets will be approx. $18 each. Scouts will receive a special patch and also have an opportunity to be on the field prior to the game! If interested please contact Carlos Villarreal at Carlos.Villarreal@yolocounty.org

Memorial Day Flags – The American Legion has asked for our help placing flags on Veteran’s graves on Sunday, May 24th. Scouts will need to be in field uniforms at the Woodland Cemetery located at West and Cross Streets. We will meet there at 8:30am on Sunday to place the small flags. Then on Monday, May 25th we have been asked to put out the large flags. Scouts will meet in uniform at 7am. We will then meet back at the cemetery at 4pm to take them down.

What to bring to summer camp.

Please mark everything with your name and troop number!

  1. Gear bag – duffel type bag. Mark the bag with your name, Troop number and the letters CCV. Please remember to flag it with red material.

  2. Sleeping bag

  3. Jacket

  4. Field Uniform (Class A) – to be worn while traveling to camp

  5. Swim trunks and beach towel – pack it were it is easy to get to for swim check

  6. Shower towel

  7. Toilet kit: toothbrush, paste, soap, chapstick, personal medications, etc.

  8. Flashlight – with extra batteries

  9. Change of clothes – long pants, shorts, and shirts

  10. Underwear

  11. Socks

  12. Hat

  13. Scout handbook

  14. Sun Screen

  15. Watch

  16. Nalgene type water bottle

  17. COMPLETED MEDICAL FORM

  18. Small personal first aid kit

  19. Day pack – large enough to carry a lunch and water for the hike day

  20. Hiking shoes

  21. Water shoes or sandals (must have for shower and water activities – no open toes allowed!)

  22. Pen or pencil, notebook to do merit badge work

Troop Rummage Sale – Our rummage sale was a huge success despite the rain! The Troop took in $1,032. A special thanks to those who came out to volunteer for the event.

Scouts and their family members that help out with this event will earn credit to help offset the cost of summer camp!

HELP WANTED: IMMEDIATE OPENING - AWARDS CHAIR

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS – COMPUTER SKILLS, RECORD KEEPING OF SCOUT ADVANCEMENTS, ETC. PLEASE CONTACT PENNY OR TANI IF INTERESTED.

 

Yolo District Camporee – March 27-29, 2009 “Scouting through the Decades!” Our Troop will have the ‘60’s! The location for this event will be Three Feathers Regional Park in the Capay Valley. Scouts need to sign up NO LATER THAN TONIGH! Remember…backpacks are a better choice for this outing since you will be hiking in! We will plan on meeting Thursday night from 6-7pm to pack the Troop trailer. If you can be there with your pack that will help us to get out of town quicker on Friday. We plan on meeting at the Scout Cabin Friday at 4:30pm and leaving the cabin no later than 5pm! Bring a sack dinner. Please bring your tie dyed shirts if you have one! Peace signs and love beads are always a good choice too! We will be returning on Sunday at approx. 12 noon. See separate packing information.

Summer Camp - Cherry Valley is scheduled for July 12-18, 2009. Payment of $100/Scout due TONIGHT by March 24th. Our final payment is due by April 21st. National Youth Leadership Training - If you are 13 years of age or older and First Class Rank or above then you should consider attending this incredible leadership training course. Two courses are being offered. Sign up with the Scoutmaster if interested!

Troop Activity Shirts and Hats – Hats and activity shirts will be available no later than March 27th. Hats=$10, Shirts=$13. New Scouts will receive one hat free of charge.

Capital March – On October 24th approximately 10,000 Scouts from all over California will march from Raley Field to the west steps of the State Capitol to present Gov. Schwarzenegger with the annual Scout report. Joining us on this kick off to the 100th Anniversary of Scouting will be the Chief Scout Executive Robert Mazzuca. Scouts will enjoy pre and post event activities at Raley Field, be presented with a commemorative gift bag, neckerchief and patch. A catered boxed lunch will also be provided.

Troop Rummage Sale – this event is a big fundraiser for the Troop. Please start saving items that you would like to donate. This will be held May 2nd. We will set up on Friday night and the rummage sale will be Saturday morning. Scouts and their family members that help out with this event will earn credit to help offset the cost of summer camp!

Troop Committee MeetingThese are monthly meetings which are held on the Monday after the second Thursday! Sound confusing? The District Roundtable meeting is the second Thursday of each month. Leaders attend this meeting then report to the Committee the following Monday. All parents are encouraged to attend these meetings. At these meetings we discuss things like – Troop activities, recruitment, fundraising, equipment, transportation, etc.

Patrol Leader’s Council Meeting – This is a monthly meeting of the Boy Scout Leaders. Boys meet to plan out the weekly meetings, outings, etc. Any Scout in a leadership role is encouraged to attend……….Patrol Leaders, Assistant Patrol Leaders, Scribe, QM, etc.
