Personal Management

Several scouts have inquired about starting this eagle required mb.    Mr. Russell will be setting up a class for this merit badge in the next couple of weeks.

 

Winter Camping Skills Night:

Troop 68 will be conducting a winter overnighter on January 14-15 to cover cold weather camping skills and snow activities prior to the February Klondike Derby.  As there is no snow in the Sierra Nevada, we will be going to Lake Solano Park to practice our skills and complete the overnight requirement for those needing it.  We will also be taking a brisk 5 –mile hike on Sunday morning in preparation for upcoming backpacking trips.  Sign ups to date;  Rich Engel, John Russell, Parker Russell, Jim Epperson, Matthew Smith, Lowell Ross, Doug Ross, Paul Vithayaveroj, Jacob Engel, Trevor Engel, Andy Reysack, Chris Clavelli

Family Potluck/2012 Planning

December 20 will be the last meeting of the year and a family potluck dinner at the scout cabin.  We will begin at 6:30 that evening rather than 7:00.  I will have a sign-up sheet at tonight’s meeting for families to use to identify a dish to bring for 12.  Dessert will be provided by the Carlenzoli Family.  Please bring a main dish, side dish, salad or drinks.  In addition to the meeting, we will be having an Eagle Scout COH for Sam Carlenzoli and a presentation on Eagle Scout Projects.

Cooking Contest Tonight:  Each Patrol will prepare a meal tonight and properly clean-up within the allotted time.  Parents are invited to stay this evening to serve as judges for the event.

Veteran’s Day Program

The American legion would like our help putting up flags at 7:00 am on Friday and taking them down at 4:00 p.m.  Only a limited number of flags will be put up this year.

Wreath Sales

Wreath sales are now open and materials were placed in each family’s mail box.  Orders are due by the end of the month and wreaths will be distributed after Thanksgiving.

 

Scouting for Food:

Scouting for Food is a city-wide effort to enhance the stocks of the Yolo County Foodbank prior to the holiday season.  Troop 68 will be assigned sections of town and will place bags on door knobs on October 29 (2-3 hours) and pick up bags of food on November 5 (1-3 hours).  Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Ross for agreeing to lead this activity for Troop 68.  All scouts, siblings and parents are encouraged to assist with this annual community service project.  Please see attached lists for current signups.


Sporting Clays:

Scouting for Food is a city-wide effort to enhance the stocks of the Yolo County Foodbank prior to the holiday season.  Troop 68 will be assigned sections of town and will place bags on door knobs on October 29 (2-3 hours) and pick up bags of food on November 5 (1-3 hours).  Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Ross for agreeing to lead this activity for Troop 68.  All scouts, siblings and parents are encouraged to assist with this annual community service project.  Please see attached lists for current signups.

 

Sporting Clays:

The theme for October is shooting sports.  Meetings will focus on bow, rifle and shotgun safety.  Mr. Long has arranged a sporting clay shoot for Saturday, November 5th after the completion of Scouting for Food.   Cost will be approximately $20/scout or adult.  Sign-ups to date:  James C, Lowell R, Chris C, Parker R, Thomas H.

 

Summer Camp

Camp this next summer will be two weeks earlier (July 1-7).  An associated fifty miler will either hike into camp or out of camp depending upon the snow and trail conditions in the Sierra Nevada.  First deposits will be due in December.

 

 

University of Scouting

Come join the fun, fellowship, training, and special activities that will rock your program and take you beyond the basic trainings you have already experienced! Be prepared to have fun, meet new and old friends, exchange ideas, and gain valuable skills to help our youth succeed in the Scouting program.
Dozens of hands-on workshops and training courses will be offered for Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturing, Varsity, OA, and Sea Scouts leaders.   Other highlights for the day include a Midway full of displays, activities, and a great Scout store to purchase items you need to succeed. Den Chief Training will also be offered.
